During the Argentina Oil and Gas 2024 held in Neuquén, Claudia Borbolla, Public Affairs Manager of Total Energies, spoke about the 100 years of the company globally and the 46 years of presence in Argentina through Total Austral, the subsidiary dedicated to the exploration and production of gas and oil.
Additionally, she highlighted that Total Energies has diversified its presence in Argentina through Total Gas Cono Sur, which markets gas; Total Renewable Energies, which builds and operates wind and solar parks; and Total Specialties, responsible for the marketing of lubricants and derived products. According to Borbolla, gas is key to reducing emissions and achieving the company's environmental goals.
Total Energies has mainly focused on the production and transportation of natural gas, aligning with its mission to be a leader in the energy transition. The executive mentioned the recent exchange carried out by the company, in which Total Energies ceded its stake in an oil block in Rincón de Aranda in exchange for the Cebreiro wind farm, located in Bahía Blanca.
This action is part of its strategy to focus on renewable energy and be operators in all the blocks in which they participate in Vaca Muerta. In terms of infrastructure, Borbolla highlighted the construction of a 43-kilometer high-voltage line that will electrify the Aguada Pichana plant and reduce its carbon emissions by replacing gas compressors with electric ones, making the plant the most modern in the country.
In addition to environmental commitment, Borbolla emphasized the importance of social sustainability in Total Energies' strategy. The company has implemented social investment programs, such as educational scholarships and access to renewable energy in communities affected by its operations. She also mentioned the Open Doors program, which invites the community and technical students to learn first-hand about the company's operations.
